Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stated the government will consider concerns raised by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) regarding India's capital gains tax structure. While acknowledging that the tax regime has remained unchanged since 2023-24, when India saw strong inflows, she noted that market conditions and investor sentiment have since shifted. Sitharaman recognized that FII outflows have increased and investor concerns are more pronounced now. The remarks follow reports that SEBI has recommended tax relief for foreign and domestic investors on equity investments and mutual fund switches.
