Following the start of Israel's war on Gaza after October 7, 2023, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced. Many fled with only what they could not bear to leave behind, such as books, pets, or keepsakes. Omar Abdel Hakim Hamad saved around 200 books from his personal library of 500, prioritizing rare editions. Shahd Abu Khosa evacuated with her two dogs, Lily and Bobby, though Bobby later died of starvation. These items represent deep personal connections and memories for those forced to abandon their homes amidst the conflict.
