The Supreme Court convened a special Sunday session on October 11 to address contempt petitions related to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests in New Delhi. One plea alleges the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation defied court orders by shutting down 45 metro stations, hindering public transport. Another petition accuses the Delhi Police Commissioner of excessive force and indiscriminate violence against unarmed protesters at Jantar Mantar. The court will also hear challenges against the preventive detention of opposition leaders and lawyers, with concerns raised about suppressing peaceful protest rights.
