News18 Hindi · india

Groundwater in Nashik's Ambad area has been found to contain extremely high levels of hexavalent chromium, a cancer-causing chemical. According to the South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers & People (SANDRP), the concentration is over 1,000 times the permissible limit for drinking water. There are fears that this contaminated water is flowing into the Godavari River, potentially affecting bathing ghats used by millions of pilgrims during the upcoming Kumbh Mela. Exposure to hexavalent chromium can lead to severe health issues, including cancer and skin problems.
