Kuvempu University Seeks Action Against Ex-Registrar Over Convocation Irregularities

Kuvempu University has formally requested the State government to take action against its former Registrar (Evaluation), S.M. Gopinath, following alleged financial irregularities during the 34th annual convocation in January 2025. The university reported that Gopinath withdrew ₹40 lakh as advance contingency and failed to submit no-due certificates. The event was also awarded to an event management company without e-tendering. A preliminary audit revealed the 34th convocation cost over ₹51.81 lakh, significantly higher than previous years. The university awaits government instructions for further proceedings.

कुवेम्पु यूनिवर्सिटी ने अपने पूर्व कुलसचिव (मूल्यांकन), एस.एम. गोपीनाथ के खिलाफ कार्रवाई के लिए राज्य सरकार से औपचारिक अनुरोध किया है। यह अनुरोध जनवरी 2025 में हुए 34वें वार्षिक दीक्षांत समारोह के दौरान कथित वित्तीय अनियमितताओं के बाद किया गया है। यूनिवर्सिटी ने बताया कि गोपीनाथ ने ₹40 लाख की अग्रिम आकस्मिक निधि निकाली और 'नो-ड्यू' प्रमाण पत्र जमा नहीं किए। यह कार्यक्रम ई-टेंडरिंग के बिना एक इवेंट मैनेजमेंट कंपनी को भी सौंपा गया था। एक प्रारंभिक ऑडिट में पता चला कि 34वें दीक्षांत समारोह में ₹51.81 लाख से अधिक का खर्च आया, जो पिछले वर्षों की तुलना में काफी ज्यादा है। यूनिवर्सिटी आगे की कार्यवाही के लिए सरकार के निर्देशों का इंतजार कर रही है।
