Times of India · interesting
A rare, late 16th-century Quran manuscript, once part of Emperor Akbar's library, has sold for £863,600 at a Sotheby's auction in London. The four-volume work, featuring elaborate decoration and eight commentaries, fetched over 14 times its highest estimate after a competitive bidding war. Traces of its history within the Mughal royal collection, including library seals and inspection inscriptions, were evident. The manuscript's provenance traces its ownership through successive Mughal emperors until Muhammad Shah, later passing to a Middle Eastern diplomat in the 1970s.
