Iran Threatens Gulf Digital Infrastructure, Including Internet Cables

Hindustan Times · world

Iran has reportedly outlined plans to target critical digital infrastructure across the Gulf if the United States and Israel resume military strikes. Warnings now extend beyond military bases to undersea internet cables, data centres, and artificial intelligence facilities. Two senior Iranian security officials stated Tehran could target seven major internet cables running beneath the Strait of Hormuz, potentially disrupting regional connectivity, financial transactions, and e-commerce. The Red Sea could also become a significant target, possibly with support from Yemen’s Houthis, potentially delaying repairs to damaged connections.
