Times of India · india

The Karnataka High Court has quashed criminal proceedings against a doctor accused of sex on a false promise of marriage. The court observed that a consensual relationship turning sour does not, by itself, amount to an offence. The case involved a seven-year relationship between two doctors in Mangaluru that ended due to caste differences. Justice M Nagaprasanna noted the potential misuse of Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which criminalises deceitful sexual intercourse.
