Indian Pilots Seek Tax Relief Amidst Exodus to Gulf Carriers

ALPA India has urged the Ministry of Civil Aviation to propose tax measures to the Finance Ministry to curb the exodus of pilots to Gulf carriers. The association highlighted a significant post-tax income gap, with Indian pilots earning substantially less than their Gulf counterparts. Proposed reliefs include increased transport and duty-free allowances, and partial tax exemption on flying and per-diem allowances. ALPA India stressed that retaining experienced pilots is crucial for aviation expansion and safety, as pilot shortages could accelerate command upgrades for less-experienced crew.
