A Finnish couple spent five years searching Google Maps and property records to find a remote island. They discovered a 5-acre uninhabited island in 2018 and sold their Helsinki apartment to fund its purchase and development. They built a compact, 70-square-meter solar-powered retreat called Project Ö, designed with Finnish cabin and Japanese minimalist influences. The home runs off-grid using solar power and filtered seawater, creating a secluded escape.
