Promotions and recruitment for nearly 50 vacant faculty posts at PGIMER are on hold as the director's term nears its April end. Dr. Vivek Lal, who took charge in May 2022, has six months left, but initiating a full recruitment drive takes at least six months. Faculty fear a prolonged freeze on appointments and promotions, as any interim director may lack the authority for new hiring. A similar administrative lag occurred after the previous director's retirement, leading to a seven-month gap before Dr. Lal's appointment.
