Ultra-Processed Foods Not Linked To Colorectal Cancer Overall: Study

Times of India · health

A new study of over 460,000 Americans challenges the common fear that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) increase colorectal cancer risk. Researchers found no overall association between UPF consumption and colorectal cancer incidence. However, the study did note that higher intakes of whole grains, dairy, and calcium from UPF sources were linked to a lower risk. Conversely, meat from UPF sources was associated with a higher incidence of the disease. Replacing 10% of UPFs with minimally processed foods was associated with a 2% lower incidence.
