Tamil Nadu Rice Mill Owners Urge Public Against Panic Buying Amid Shortage Rumours

The Hindu · india

The Tamil Nadu Rice Mill Owners Association has appealed to the public to avoid panic buying of rice, addressing rumours of a shortage circulating on social media. Association leaders stated that while El Niño has reduced cultivation, adequate stocks are available and the situation is not alarming. They explained that fine-quality rice, mostly imported from neighbouring states, has seen price increases due to lower yields. However, prices are expected to stabilize by January with improved cultivation in other states and the upcoming monsoon.
