Nevada's Lost Species Raise Extinction Fears; New Journal Tracks Missing Wildlife

Times of India · environment

Concerns are growing over species disappearing before extinction can be confirmed, as highlighted by a rare wildflower in Las Vegas not seen for nearly a century. A new publication, the Journal of Lost Species, aims to document plants and animals not observed for a decade or more, encouraging efforts to find them. This initiative addresses a gap between 'endangered' and 'extinct' classifications, potentially motivating more research. Nevada faces significant biodiversity challenges, with over 1,100 plants and animals at high risk of disappearing from the state.
