A Chandigarh consumer commission has ordered a real estate firm to refund Rs 62.7 lakh with 12% annual interest to a homebuyer couple due to significant delays in flat possession. The builder repeatedly postponed delivery, stopped monthly compensation payments after a year, and issued a possession letter despite the apartment lacking a fire safety certificate. The commission found the firm guilty of deficiency in service and unfair trade practices, also awarding Rs 1.1 lakh for mental agony and litigation costs.
