Big Pharma Invests Billions in Novel 'Protein Degrader' Drugs
Hindustan Times · health
Major pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and Roche are investing billions in a new class of drugs called 'protein degraders.' These innovative medications target hard-to-reach proteins involved in diseases, offering a novel approach beyond traditional drug mechanisms. While early results show promise, with one patient achieving remission, widespread effectiveness is still being studied. Scientists are carefully monitoring for potential side effects on healthy cells, as these drugs interfere with cellular recycling processes. Around 200 such degraders are currently under development worldwide.
