India is exploring an alternative oil supply route by laying an undersea oil and gas pipeline from the UAE. This initiative aims to bolster India's energy security, which is heavily reliant on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil trade route. Recent geopolitical tensions in the region have highlighted the vulnerability of this supply line. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has indicated that the government is prioritizing this project, known as the MEIDP, connecting Oman and the UAE to India.
