The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received its first three indigenous HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Full pilot training operations are expected to commence in approximately two years, pending the build-up of trained instructors and a larger fleet. Initially, these aircraft will be stationed at the Flying Instructors’ School in Tambaram, Chennai, to train instructors. The IAF ordered 70 HTT-40s for ₹6,838 crore to meet growing training needs, with deliveries of key US-made engines facing past supply chain issues.
