West Bengal has revised its liquor licensing rules, making them effective. New liquor shops will not be permitted within a 1-km radius of religious institutions, schools, and colleges. However, this exclusion zone is reduced to 500m in Kolkata Municipal Corporation and other municipal areas. The circular also allows for the reopening of previously closed liquor shops under specific conditions. This move revises the previous distance rule of approximately 300m.

पश्चिम बंगाल ने अपने शराब लाइसेंसिंग नियमों को संशोधित कर दिया है, जो अब प्रभावी हैं। नए शराब की दुकानों को धार्मिक संस्थानों, स्कूलों और कॉलेजों के 1 किलोमीटर के दायरे में खोलने की इजाजत नहीं होगी। हालांकि, कोलकाता म्युनिसिपल कॉर्पोरेशन और अन्य म्युनिसिपल क्षेत्रों में यह दूरी 500 मीटर तक कम कर दी गई है। एक सर्कुलर में कुछ खास शर्तों के तहत पहले से बंद शराब की दुकानों को फिर से खोलने की भी अनुमति दी गई है। इस कदम से पहले की लगभग 300 मीटर की दूरी का नियम बदल गया है।
