Madras HC Refuses Protection To Contractor From DVAC Action

The Madras High Court has refused to grant protection to a Class-I contractor from the state water resources department against coercive action by the DVAC. The contractor had challenged a 2024 communication from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning an alleged ₹4,000 crore illegal sand mining probe. The petitioner claimed the ED communication did not attribute specific acts to him. However, after a change in government, the DVAC issued a notice to the contractor for an inquiry, which he is now contesting.

मद्रास हाईकोर्ट ने राज्य जल संसाधन विभाग के एक क्लास-I ठेकेदार को डीवीएसी द्वारा की जाने वाली जबरन कार्रवाई से सुरक्षा देने से इनकार कर दिया है। ठेकेदार ने कथित ₹4,000 करोड़ के अवैध रेत खनन की जांच के संबंध में प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) के 2024 के एक संचार को चुनौती दी थी। याचिकाकर्ता का दावा था कि ईडी के संचार में उसे कोई विशिष्ट कार्य नहीं सौंपा गया था। हालांकि, सरकार बदलने के बाद, डीवीएसी ने ठेकेदार को पूछताछ के लिए एक नोटिस जारी किया, जिसे वह अब चुनौती दे रहा है।
