Maharashtra Voters Face Dilemma Over 'First-Time Voter' Clause
Times of India · india
Maharashtra's electoral roll revision has created a bind for 1.52 crore electors marked as 'absent' or 'shifted'. These voters are being asked to declare themselves as first-time applicants on Form 6 to get their names back on the roll. Civil rights activists argue this forces voters to make a false declaration, which is a criminal offense. The Bombay High Court has also questioned this procedure after similar cases arose.
