चेन्नई में पुराने कूड़े के ढेरों को साफ करने के लिए बायोमाइनिंग प्रोजेक्ट चल रहे हैं, फिर भी शहर रोज़ाना के कचरे को संभालने में संघर्ष कर रहा है। कई माइक्रो कम्पोस्टिंग सेंटर (MCC) बंद हो गए हैं, जिससे कचरा प्रोसेसिंग की क्षमता बहुत कम हो गई है। बायोमाइनिंग से जमा हुआ कचरा तो हट जाएगा, लेकिन अगर नए कचरे का प्रबंधन ठीक से नहीं हुआ तो यह लंबे समय का हल नहीं है।
