A rare flowering shrub, Ardisia colorata, has been rediscovered in Assam's Bongaigaon district after more than two centuries. Researchers from Gauhati University found the plant during botanical surveys conducted between 2020 and 2025. The identification was confirmed by comparing its features to historical descriptions, resolving taxonomic confusion dating back to 1824. Assam's forest minister highlighted the finding as a reminder of the state's rich biodiversity, emphasizing the importance of conserving even lesser-known species.
