Supreme Court Seeks Govt, EC Response On Recovering Bypoll Costs From Defecting MLAs

The Supreme Court has asked the central government, the Election Commission, and other parties to respond to a petition demanding that defecting MLAs who resign and contest again should bear the cost of the resulting by-elections. The plea is linked to AIADMK MLAs in Tamil Nadu who resigned and joined another party. The petitioner seeks details of expenses incurred by the ECI and government for recent by-elections in Tamil Nadu. The court issued notices to four former AIADMK MLAs involved in this matter.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र सरकार, चुनाव आयोग और अन्य पक्षों से एक याचिका पर जवाब मांगा है। याचिका में कहा गया है कि जो विधायक इस्तीफा देकर दोबारा चुनाव लड़ते हैं, उनसे उपचुनाव का खर्च वसूला जाना चाहिए। यह याचिका तमिलनाडु की AIADMK के उन विधायकों से जुड़ी है जिन्होंने इस्तीफा देकर दूसरी पार्टी ज्वाइन कर ली थी। याचिकाकर्ता ने तमिलनाडु में हुए हालिया उपचुनावों पर चुनाव आयोग और सरकार द्वारा किए गए खर्च का विवरण मांगा है। कोर्ट ने इस मामले से जुड़े चार पूर्व AIADMK विधायकों को नोटिस जारी किया है।
