Kerala Won't Acquire Farmers' Land For ESA

Kerala's Forest Minister Shibu Baby John assured farmers that their land will not be forcibly acquired under environmental laws. Any unavoidable acquisition will include compensation. The state will urge the Centre to limit the Ecologically Sensitive Area notification to 98 villages, excluding settlements and farmlands. Compensation for crop losses due to wildlife attacks will also be increased and disbursed promptly.

केरल के वन मंत्री शिबू बेबी जॉन ने किसानों को भरोसा दिलाया है कि पर्यावरण कानूनों के तहत उनकी ज़मीनें ज़बरदस्ती नहीं छीनी जाएंगी। अगर कोई ज़मीन लेनी भी पड़ी तो उसका पूरा मुआवज़ा दिया जाएगा। राज्य सरकार केंद्र से कहेगी कि इकोलॉजिकली सेंसिटिव एरिया (ESA) की अधिसूचना सिर्फ़ 98 गांवों तक सीमित रहे, जिसमें बस्तियां और खेत शामिल न हों। जंगली जानवरों के हमलों से फसलों के नुकसान का मुआवज़ा भी बढ़ाया जाएगा और जल्दी दिया जाएगा।
