IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has called on wealthy nations, including the US, to urgently address escalating global debt levels. She stated that economic growth alone is insufficient to manage the over USD 40 trillion US national debt, emphasizing the need for fiscal consolidation. Rising debt and inflation, exacerbated by high energy costs, have pushed interest rates to record highs, disproportionately burdening low-income countries. These nations face difficult choices between social support and debt repayment, with interest payments consuming significant portions of their revenue.
