Tamirabharani River Fish Face Extinction Threats

The Tamirabharani River, unique to Tamil Nadu, supports 125 fish species, including seven endemic to the region. However, pollution from sewage, bathing rituals, and habitat destruction are severely impacting these unique species. One endemic fish, Dawkinsia tambraparniei, is already classified as endangered. Experts warn that the disappearance of these endemic fish would signify the biological death of the river system. Conservation efforts are crucial to protect this rich biodiversity.

तमिलनाडु की खास तामिराभरणी नदी में 125 तरह की मछलियाँ रहती हैं, जिनमें से 7 यहीं पाई जाती हैं। लेकिन सीवेज, नहाने के रीति-रिवाजों और रहने की जगहें तबाह होने से प्रदूषण इन अनोखी मछलियों पर भारी पड़ रहा है। एक खास मछली, Dawkinsia tambraparniei, पहले से ही खतरे में है। जानकारों का कहना है कि अगर ये खास मछलियाँ खत्म हो गईं तो नदी का सिस्टम जैविक रूप से मर जाएगा। इस अनोखी जैव विविधता को बचाने के लिए कोशिशें बहुत ज़रूरी हैं।
