RBI Tightens Forex Derivative Rules For Rupee Transactions

Economic Times Markets · stocks

The Reserve Bank of India has introduced new regulations for foreign exchange derivative transactions involving the Indian rupee. These changes restrict the rebooking of cancelled contracts and significantly lower the limit for transactions without underlying exposure to $5 million from $100 million. Authorised dealers must now obtain undertakings from users to ensure underlying exposures are not hedged elsewhere. Additionally, a Foreign Exchange Risk Reserve (FERR) of 20% is mandated for rupee-linked derivative contracts exceeding $2 million notional value.
