Indian equity benchmarks closed sharply lower on Tuesday, reversing earlier gains as rising crude oil prices and higher US Treasury yields impacted investor sentiment. The sell-off intensified ahead of the US Federal Reserve's expected 25 basis point rate hike. Brent crude surpassed $108 a barrel due to Middle East tensions and supply concerns, while US 10-year Treasury yields exceeded 5%. The Nifty 50 fell below 23,150, with metals and rate-sensitive sectors leading the decline.
