Economists Advise Parliamentary Panel On Simultaneous Polls Legislation

Eminent economists, including S. Gurumurthy and Shamika Ravi, have provided valuable inputs to a Parliamentary Committee examining proposed legislation for simultaneous elections. The Joint Committee, chaired by BJP MP P.P. Chaudhary, is reviewing the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The committee has been conducting nationwide consultations with the aim of potentially rolling out simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, State assemblies, and local bodies by 2029. This initiative follows a recommendation from a panel headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind.

एस. गुरुमूर्ति और शमिका रवि सहित प्रतिष्ठित अर्थशास्त्रियों ने एक साथ चुनावों के प्रस्तावित कानून की जांच कर रही संसदीय समिति को महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी दी है। भाजपा सांसद पी.पी. चौधरी की अध्यक्षता वाली संयुक्त समिति संविधान (129वां संशोधन) विधेयक, 2024 और केंद्र शासित प्रदेश कानून (संशोधन) विधेयक, 2024 की समीक्षा कर रही है। समिति का लक्ष्य 2029 तक लोकसभा, राज्य विधानसभाओं और स्थानीय निकायों के लिए एक साथ चुनाव कराने के उद्देश्य से देश भर में परामर्श कर रही है। यह पहल पूर्व राष्ट्रपति राम नाथ कोविन्द की अध्यक्षता वाली एक समिति की सिफारिश के बाद आई है।
