Fossilised Bird Poop May Explain Dinosaur Extinction Survival

Tiny feathers found in fossilised bird poop from Montana, USA, may hold clues to how some birds survived the mass extinction event 66 million years ago that killed the dinosaurs. The specimen, from an extinct diving bird called Hesperornithiformes, contained well-preserved feathers and leg bones. Scientists believe differences in feather structure, particularly insulation properties, might explain why this group perished while other bird lineages, Neornithes, survived the asteroid's aftermath.
