Actress Sonali Kulkarni initially hesitated to play Salman Khan's mother in the film 'Bharat', despite being nine years younger than him in real life. She felt she wouldn't look the part and even suggested other actresses for the role. However, upon hearing the script focused heavily on Salman's childhood flashbacks, she agreed. Kulkarni stated she isn't afraid of playing any role, having previously portrayed a boy and a girl who transforms into a tree. She believes mothers can also be wives or friends, and people remember her for diverse roles.
