Kolkata Colony Faces 52 Days Without Water

The Hindu · india

Residents of Kolkata's Jyoti Nagar colony have been without drinking water for 52 days since July 29, after pipeline work by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). Five public taps serving around 5,000 people have run dry. Residents allege deliberate water cut-off, possibly due to religious bias and an attempt to evict them from disputed land. They are using unhygienic Ganges water, leading to skin infections. The matter is now before the Calcutta High Court.
