Delhi residents may soon have to pay more for alcohol as the government plans a new liquor policy. The draft policy, expected to be notified in October, aims to increase excise duty and retail margins. This move is intended to boost the Delhi government's revenue. The policy also proposes increasing the number of premium liquor shops and removing fixed retail margins, which currently make premium imported spirits cheaper in neighbouring cities like Gurugram.

दिल्ली के लोगों को जल्द ही शराब के लिए ज़्यादा पैसे देने पड़ सकते हैं क्योंकि सरकार एक नई शराब नीति बनाने की सोच रही है। यह ड्राफ्ट नीति, जो अक्टूबर में नोटिफाई होने की उम्मीद है, एक्साइज ड्यूटी और रिटेल मार्जिन बढ़ाने का लक्ष्य रखती है। इस कदम का मकसद दिल्ली सरकार के रेवेन्यू को बढ़ाना है। नीति में प्रीमियम शराब की दुकानों की संख्या बढ़ाने और फिक्स्ड रिटेल मार्जिन को हटाने का भी प्रस्ताव है, जिससे फिलहाल Gurugram जैसे पड़ोसी शहरों में प्रीमियम इम्पोर्टेड स्पिरिट्स सस्ती पड़ती हैं।
