Punjab Information Commission Orders Action Against Officials For RTI Delay

The Punjab State Information Commission has taken a serious view of a six-year delay in providing information under the RTI Act and ordered action against erring officials. The commission directed the director of rural development and panchayats to identify responsible individuals and initiate administrative action. Additionally, Rs 5,000 in compensation was awarded to the applicant who faced repeated non-compliance and harassment. The commission noted the public authority's conduct was unacceptable, citing persistent disregard for statutory duties and repeated absence during proceedings.

पंजाब राज्य सूचना आयोग ने आरटीआई अधिनियम के तहत जानकारी देने में छह साल की देरी को गंभीरता से लिया है और दोषी अधिकारियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई का आदेश दिया है। आयोग ने ग्रामीण विकास और पंचायत विभाग के निदेशक को जिम्मेदार व्यक्तियों की पहचान करने और प्रशासनिक कार्रवाई शुरू करने का निर्देश दिया। इसके अतिरिक्त, बार-बार अनुपालन न करने और उत्पीड़न का सामना करने वाले आवेदक को 5,000 रुपये का मुआवजा दिया गया। आयोग ने कहा कि लोक प्राधिकरण का आचरण अस्वीकार्य था, जिसमें वैधानिक कर्तव्यों की लगातार उपेक्षा और कार्यवाही के दौरान बार-बार अनुपस्थिति का हवाला दिया गया।
