Times of India · interesting
A round loaf of bread, carbonised after being buried by the AD 79 eruption of Mount Vesuvius, has been discovered in Herculaneum. Found nearly 2,000 years later by archaeologists in 1930, the loaf still shows its eight segments and a baker's stamp. This discovery offers a tangible glimpse into ancient Roman food preparation, complementing written records. The British Museum highlighted the loaf in a 2013 exhibition, inspiring a chef to recreate it.
