Indian Banks Face Tighter Liquidity and Rising Risks, Says Axis Bank CEO
Business Standard · business
Axis Bank CEO Amitabh Chaudhry stated that Indian banks are entering a challenging phase due to tighter liquidity, rising deposit costs, and anticipated interest rate hikes. While credit demand remains strong, banks must balance growth with prudent risk management. He noted that the RBI's liquidity absorption and geopolitical uncertainties add pressure. Chaudhry believes banks are better positioned to handle stress than before, but higher interest rates could slow credit growth. Managing risk is identified as the banking system's biggest skill.
