The Bombay High Court has strongly criticized the BMC and the Maharashtra government for paying hefty fees to celebrities for public awareness campaigns on issues like cracker bans and air pollution. The court emphasized that celebrities should participate voluntarily and for free, given the benefits they receive from Mumbai. The court also directed that awareness campaigns should be continuous and reach slum areas, with strict monitoring during festivals.
