India Reclaims Tax Power From Mauritius, Singapore

India has renegotiated tax treaties with Mauritius, Singapore, and Cyprus to reassert its right to tax capital gains from investments at the source. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated these changes aim to strengthen India's tax base and prevent treaty misuse. Previously, investors from certain jurisdictions could claim capital gains were taxable only in their country of residence, limiting India's taxing ability.

भारत ने मॉरीशस, सिंगापुर और साइप्रस के साथ टैक्स संधियों पर फिर से बातचीत की है। इससे निवेश पर होने वाले कैपिटल गेन पर टैक्स लगाने का अधिकार भारत को मिल गया है। वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने कहा कि इससे भारत का टैक्स बेस मजबूत होगा और संधि का गलत इस्तेमाल रुकेगा। पहले कुछ देशों के निवेशक कैपिटल गेन पर केवल अपने देश में टैक्स लगने का दावा कर सकते थे, जिससे भारत की टैक्स लगाने की क्षमता सीमित हो जाती थी।
