Hindustan Times · health
Insufficient sleep can significantly impact heart health, according to Dr. Mridul Sharma, an interventional cardiologist. During sleep, the body performs essential repair and recovery for the heart and metabolism. When sleep is inadequate, blood pressure may remain high, and stress hormone levels can increase, stressing the heart and blood vessels. Research links poor sleep to higher risks of high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. Adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep nightly for optimal cardiovascular function.
