Mississippi Preserve Hides 50 Waterfalls, Ravines, and Rare Flora
Times of India · environment
Contrary to the image of flat cotton fields and slow rivers, Mississippi's Clarks Creek Natural Area boasts approximately 50 waterfalls, some reaching over 30 feet tall. This preserve, established in 1978 and covering over 700 acres, features unique landscapes shaped by wind-deposited loess soil, creating steep ravines and supporting diverse plant life like beech and magnolia trees. The area also provides habitat for black bears and rare species, offering a surprising natural escape. Visitors can explore developed or primitive trails, with hikes ranging from 1.78 to 2.6 miles.
