Madras HC Rejects Plea Against DMK Whip's Election

The Madras High Court has rejected an election petition challenging the victory of DMK whip E.V. Velu from the Tiruvannamalai Assembly constituency. Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy agreed with arguments that the petition lacked material facts and did not disclose a cause of action for a trial. Mr. Velu secured 88,273 votes, defeating TVK candidate Arul Arumugam by 2,455 votes. This is one of several election petitions dismissed by the court without a full trial.

मद्रास हाई कोर्ट ने तिरुवन्नमलई सीट से DMK विधायक ई.वी. वेलू की जीत को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका खारिज कर दी है। जस्टिस डी. भरत चक्रवर्ती ने माना कि याचिका में ज़रूरी तथ्य नहीं थे और सुनवाई का कोई कारण नहीं बनता। वेलू ने 88,273 वोट पाकर टीवीके के आरुल अरुमुगम को 2,455 वोटों से हराया था। कोर्ट ने ऐसी कई याचिकाएं बिना पूरी सुनवाई के खारिज की हैं।
