Mr. Bondre had reportedly declined to switch parties. Following a personal call from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who assured him of support and advised him to fight without fear, Mr. Bondre decided against joining the BJP. The party stated it stands firmly behind him against what it described as injustice and repression.
