Young Men Flee Tigray Amid Recruitment Fears

Young men are fleeing Tigray, Ethiopia, fearing forced recruitment by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). Despite the November 2022 Pretoria Agreement ending the war, reports of mobilization have resurfaced. Human Rights Watch documented forced recruitment of civilians, including children, since April. Survivors like Shewit, 24, and Gebru, 27, have left their homes and studies to avoid being drawn back into conflict. The unresolved issues from the war continue to fuel anxiety in the region.
