Pearl Fryar transformed a three-acre cornfield in Bishopville, South Carolina, into a distinctive topiary garden using discarded plants. Starting in the early 1980s without formal training, Fryar rescued trees and shrubs from nursery compost piles. He sculpted over 400 plants into living art, including geometric forms and recognizable shapes like the signature fishbone tree. The garden, driven by Fryar's philosophy of positive thinking and hard work, remains free to the public as a memorial.
