Consumer Court Orders Rs 20,000 Compensation For IRCTC

A Chandigarh consumer commission has increased compensation for a senior citizen from Rs 3,000 to Rs 20,000 for a railway retiring room booked via IRCTC. The 73-year-old was promised a Western toilet at Chittorgarh station but found only an Indian toilet upon arrival. He had booked the room for May 12, 2024, relying on the IRCTC portal's description due to his age and infirmities. The commission noted that the initial compensation was merely token and did not adequately cover the mental agony and inconvenience caused by the deficiency in service.

चंडीगढ़ उपभोक्ता आयोग ने IRCTC के ज़रिए बुक किए गए रेलवे रिटायरिंग रूम के लिए एक बुज़ुर्ग को मिलने वाला मुआवज़ा ₹3,000 से बढ़ाकर ₹20,000 कर दिया है। 73 साल के इस व्यक्ति को चित्तौड़गढ़ स्टेशन पर वेस्टर्न टॉयलेट का वादा किया गया था, लेकिन पहुँचने पर सिर्फ़ इंडियन टॉयलेट मिला। आयोग ने कहा कि शुरुआती मुआवज़ा बहुत कम था और सेवा में कमी से हुई परेशानी को पूरा नहीं करता।
