Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award, for flydubai Captain Smit Machchhar. Machchhar, 40, was allegedly stabbed by his co-pilot on a flight to Tel Aviv but managed to unlock the cockpit door, allowing others to overpower the attacker. This act of bravery is credited with saving the lives of 174 people onboard. Prime Minister Modi himself acknowledged that Machchhar averted a potential "9/11-style tragedy" and later spoke with the injured pilot.

शिवसेना सांसद मिलिंद देवड़ा ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को पत्र लिखकर फ्लाईदुबई के कैप्टन स्मित मच्छर के लिए अशोक चक्र, भारत का सर्वोच्च शांति काल वीरता पुरस्कार, का अनुरोध किया है। मच्छर, 40, पर कथित तौर पर तेल अवीव जा रही उड़ान में उनके सह-पायलट ने हमला किया था, लेकिन वह कॉकपिट का दरवाज़ा खोलने में कामयाब रहे, जिससे हमलावर को काबू किया जा सका। इस बहादुरी भरे काम को विमान में सवार 174 लोगों की जान बचाने का श्रेय दिया जाता है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने स्वयं स्वीकार किया कि मच्छर ने एक संभावित "9/11-शैली की त्रासदी" को टाल दिया और बाद में घायल पायलट से बात भी की।
