Leopards Retreat from Larger Challengers in Indian Wildlife Encounters
Hindustan Times · environment
In a display of wild prudence, leopards in India have been observed retreating from larger animals like nilgai and buffaloes. Incidents in Jaipur's Jhalana Leopard Reserve and Rajaji National Park show dominant leopards backing down when confronted by more formidable creatures. This behaviour highlights the challenges wildlife faces as human activities, including livestock intrusion, encroach upon their habitats. Wildlife photographer Dr Kuldip Jaswal captured a leopard fleeing from buffaloes, illustrating the predator's preference for smaller prey and avoidance of risky confrontations. These encounters underscore the complex dynamics of human-wildlife coexistence.
