India's Urbanisation Plan Lacks Unified Approach, Risks Undercount
The Hindu · india
Despite official recognition of India's ongoing urbanisation across a rural-urban continuum, the upcoming Census 2027 will rely on outdated 2011 definitions. This approach risks significantly undercounting India's urban population. A comprehensive National Urbanisation Policy is urgently needed to address this definitional gap. Such a policy could establish the necessary institutional frameworks and fiscal mechanisms to accurately capture and manage the country's evolving urban landscape.
