Campaign to Return Historic Land to Wampanoag Owners

An $8 million campaign has been launched by a Native-led nonprofit to acquire and restore a historic 3.5-acre property on Martha’s Vineyard. The site, which once housed the Aquinnah Shop restaurant founded in the 1940s by Wampanoag couple Napoleon and Nanette Madison, holds deep ties to the Wampanoag community. The Aquinnah Land Initiative aims to purchase the property, which is currently owned by the Native Land Conservancy.
